Hi, I’m Aki, a government licensed English speaking tour guide. I was born and raised in Kagawa prefecture, the venue of Setouchi Triennale, facing the beautiful Seto Inland Sea, in western Japan. After graduating from a university, I had worked for a global electronics company in Tokyo for 30 years and retired early. Working with foreign colleagues gave me fantastic opportunities to learn about Japan from their points of views, and I came to think it's fun to talk about Japan with foreign people. Also, I love traveling. I have visited a lot of places throughout Japan, amazed by its beautiful nature, great tradition, and wonderful food. I realized Japan has numerous tourist attractions. Then I became a tour guide, hoping to entertain foreign visitors with my tours based on my experiences as a tourist. I've been living in Yokohama and Kamakura areas for more than 30 years. I know Tokyo, Yokohama, Kamakura, and Hakone very well. I love food, nature, cultures, and architectures. I value genuineness of what to see, experience, taste and buy, which cannot always be experienced in a group tour. I believe that participating in my guided tour will bring you a lot of fun. I can help you to explore Japan deeper and to get in touch with the locals, taking you to both popular spots and unbeaten sites where you can see the daily lives of the people. Let’s share a joy of touring in this lovely country. Thank you and see you in Japan!

Hi! Thanks for reviewing my profile. I am Australian, from Sydney originally but my life with Japan and its culture and history spans 30 odd years and I have been a Hiroshima resident for 18 of those 30 years. I joined GoWithGuide just recently but be assured I have led many tours in Hiroshima and more widely throughout metropolitan and regional Japan, sharing conversations about the unique society, its fascinating culture and history. I also have written several tourism blogs for inbound tour companies and also the Hiroshima Prefectural Tourism Bureau. I speak fluent Japanese and I have immersed myself in the experience of living here in modern and traditional culture and spent many years studying martial arts Aikido and Iaido. I also have a strong interest in Buddhist teachings. My Japanese calligraphy work over the years has been received recognition and several awards and commissions both in Japan and elsewhere. I'm looking forward to spending a great experience sharing the culture and history of Hiroshima with you.

Hello everyone. My name is Keiji living in Okayama. Okayama is located halfway between Hiroshima and Osaka. Nowadays a lot of people are attracted by Naoshima that is a small island famous for Art and Architecture. Okayama is the entrance to the island therefore I often show international guests around Naoshima. Okayama itself has many tourist attractions such as Kurashiki famous for Bikan historical quarter, Korakuen garden, Okayama castle and so on. If you'd like to include Hiroshima or Osaka on your plan, I can show you round them as these cities are in the distance of an hour train ride. I'm an easygoing and extrovert person. I'm always waiting for you to contact me..

I am Mayumi, SETOUCHI lover and a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter for English-speaking guests. I left busy Tokyo where I had lived for many years and moved to this calm city Okayama recently in order to change my way of living in my mid fifties. Before settling down here I spent some months like a traveler and found much comfort and amenity of this region. I came to wish to share such value with others. That is why I started a second job as a private tour guide. Honestly speaking, I am not experienced guide, yet I would like to make every effort  to satisfy your requests and make your stay happier. Okayama is one of the most attractive cities in Western Japan. It is known for Kouraku-en which is one of the three most scenic landscape gardens in Japan. Okayama has a mild climate and is famous for fruit production such as white peach and grapes. You must love them. Also the location of Okayama is wonderful, it faces the Seto Inland Sea.You can enjoy idyllic scenery and a lot of outdoor activities are possible. If you are interested in slow life or inner peace,it is your destination. I would like to offer you very special opportunities to deepen your experience in Western Japan. Please visit Okayama and let me guide you. ◆My guidable area : SETOUCHI-islands, Setouchi Art Trienale 2019, Benesse Art Site, Okayama and Kagawa ◆Personal life : I am a working mother. I am fond of walks, cycling, skiing and traveling. At home, I enjoy cooking and gardening.

Hi, everyone. I am Kaz. I live in Ehime, which is opposite from Hiroshima across the Seto Inland Sea. There is no Shinkansen bullet train here, but there are many things to see. You will have a relaxed, peaceful time, feeling as if time were passing slowly. And you will find lots of beautiful things. For example, there has been a tradition in people's behavior that they will show their hospitalityby serving tea or cakes to walking pilgrims. There have been many who want to visit the temples belonging to the Shikoku 88 Sacred Places, as a pilgrim. There is also abundance of natural beauty. You can see high mountains extending to the far distance and rivers running through the area. It goes without saying that there is a lot of delicious food. I am looking forward to seeing you. Please come visit Japan, and discover hidden treasure. Thank you.

My name is Mika, a local guide living in Takamatsu city. I have been an English teacher, but the Setouchi International Art Festival awakened me to the joy of guiding. The more I learn about the Seto Inland Sea region, the more I am impressed by its life, history, architecture and art works. So, I would like to show you the spectacular scenery that you may have missed in guidebooks alone, and the sights that have yet to be introduced in guidebooks. In Kagawa Prefecture, island tours are also very popular, such as Naoshima, Teshima, and Inujima, which are sacred places for contemporary art, and I think you can better understand the connection between the history of the islands and art by touring with a guide. Of course, I would also like to introduce fresh harvest from the Seto Inland Sea, delicious local food, and shopping for folk crafts in the Takamatsu shopping arcade, which will satisfy you fully as a highlight of your journey.

Second day: east side of Tokyo

For the east side of Tokyo, we hired Toshihiro to plan our 8 hour tour. My daughter researched the sites of interest in east Tokyo, with an emphasis on those that would interest my 10 year old granddaughter. Toshihiro offered us excellent advice and recommendations to complete our itinerary before we arrived in Japan. With water bottles, hats and suntan lotion, we met up with Toshihiro in the lobby of our hotel and headed off for a long, hot (35C or 98F) but fascinating day. As we approached the subway, Toshihiro advised us to buy a 24h unlimited Tokyo metro pass: adult 600 Y, child 300Y. THAT IS A DEAL because some brief rides cost 200Y! Toshihiro organized our day to ensure we had time to see all the sights with minimal retracing and for fast transfers using the Metro. We started out visiting the Imperial Palace grounds (there is zero shade), where Toshihiro gave a history lesson dating back to the Shogun period that was followed by the ascent of the Emperor. We then subwayed to the Tsukiji fish market after a brief stop at a very large Budhist temple next to the fish market, for a memorial service. We learned about the history of Tokyo and the Tsukiji fish market as we meandered the streets, admiring the fish and Wagyu meat, vegetables (wasabi), and ice cream including Black Sesame ice cream, my fave. Before leaving the fish market, Toshihiro brought us to a traditional Japanese lunch place that a food critic had highly recommended years ago. It was outstanding so we recommend it! Translated the name in English is "good old age". Then off to Akihabara (with claw machines), Nezu shrine and Asakusa area with the Senso-ji temple and Hozomon Gate. Toshihiro left us as we set out to enjoy an amazing sensory experience at Teamlab Planets (photos). We spent 90 minutes there wading through knee-deep water, AI generated fish, light-enhanced crystal hangings, room filled with giant balloons, pods and plants. What an amazing finish to a fun and informative day! Thank you

Toshihiro Y.

Thank you for the brilliant tour review with excellent photos, Jerrold-san. You are three generations family with a daughter and a granddaughter. You had already come to Japan several times before. I am really happy to get this kind of wonderful comments on the tour from a person like you. Tour was done more than two weeks ago. It was a very hot summer day. I guess that you are now back to your country with a nice cool climate. Tokyo is still very hot today. I am impressed with that you have an amazing good memory on the tour in Tokyo. Your daughter researched well on the popular touristic spots in Tokyo. It was easy to make the tour itinerary for you because your daughter informed me of your interests clearly. You had good preparations against a crazy hot summer day in Tokyo. I could do a guide without any extra difficulty. Your hotel was located at nice area in central Tokyo near Tokyo Metro subway station, one of the two subway companies in Tokyo. That's why we could use very economical 24 hours tickets. In Tokyo, some spots are better to visit in the morning, some other spots are better to visit in the late afternoon. Sometimes I encounter difficulty to decide the order of the sightseeing. But you agreed with my suggestion. You were very cooperative. Thank you very much again. At historical spots like the Imperial Palace, I explained Japanese history. But real history is more complicated and has various aspects. My explanation of Japanese history was very simplified. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed both traditional spots and modern spots. Tokyo has many other amazing attractions and is changing drastically every year. Please come to Japan again in the near future.

A must do tour. See Porto from a different perspective

For me this is a must to do while in Porto. Joao our driver and guide is so proud and passionate about his city. He took us through its history while transporting us around. Many stops for photos and explanations of the city's past and culture. We travelled through the cobbled back streets taking in the views from the motorbike and sidecar. Stunning! We ended the tour in the old fishing village with views out to sea. Joao's recommendation for lunch was spot on! It's set us up for the rest of our stay in Porto. We now have a list of what to visit and what not to. Excellent tour! Well done Joao for producing such a novel and fascinating tour!!

This was for my husband because I do not drink. But, I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of each of our stops. Thank you, Kuni for another fun night in Shinjuku.
